Central Park Swings began in 1998 with a small boombox and was held at Bethesda Fountain. It moved to the band shell in 2000 so that it could receive the endorsement of the parks department. It is now an official permitted event that is held selected Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. see below for past postings
